If you’re up for some clubbing in the Lion City, there is no better place to go than Zouk Singapore. Established in March 1991, Zouk is unparalleled in all of Asia and is even considered as one of the world’s best clubs. The club has been featured in popular magazines like Vogue, Rolling Stones, Elle, Wired, Time, and Newsweek Asia.

The club stands on a piece of historically significant location. The original building, constructed in 1919 along the Singapore River, had three warehouses. When the owners of the club bought the property, it was already run down; there was no roof, the walls were collapsing, and the building was falling apart. Upon construction of the club, the old façade of the building was restored. Some walls were retained and reinforced. Even as new rooms were added to the building, the external designs kept to the overall look of the old warehouse architecture.

What makes Zouk Singapore unique is that it comprises four different clubs – each with its own theme – housed in one large complex. The main Zouk room was built with Moorish tiles, and the interior is arranged as inspired by the designs of the celebrated architect Antoni Gaudi. It is equipped with state of the art sound and lighting systems. With several small bars and a multi-level dance floor, the main Zouk room is a clubbing destination in itself. It can accommodate 2,000 people.

Another club within the Zouk complex is called the Phuture. As the name implies, this club sports a futuristic design that is completed by a large LED wall. It is equipped with non 4/4 sound. Another club, The Velvet Underground, is designed with walls splashed with a rich velvet color. Some important artwork, such as those by Frank Stella and Andy Warhol, are shown on display. The Velvet Underground has its own entrance.

Finally, the Wine Bar has an indoor/outdoor seating. The Wine Bar is where people converge before entering the Zouk Singapore complex. They stay here for a while to have a few drinks and relax before going in for some serious clubbing. This chill out bar has a contemporary design and a more relaxed ambiance compared to the other bars in the complex.

You can go to the club in a number of ways. If you are driving to the place, you can take the Pan Island Expressway and exit at Stevens Road. Go straight to Scotts Road, and head toward Paterson and Kim Seng Roads. Upon reaching the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, turn left and look for Jiak Kim Street. The club is at the end of that street.

The MRT is a convenient way to go to the club. Take the train and go down at Tiong Bahru Station. From there, ride the bus going to Havelock Road. Go down when you see the Holiday Inn Atrium Hotel on the opposite side, then find your way to the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel.

You may also just take the bus to Zouk Singapore. Buses 16 and 175 will take you to Kim Seng Road, where you will find the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. From there, you can walk to Jiak Kim Street where the club is found.
